Limiting Beliefs About Money: Examples & Exercises
Common restrictive money beliefs and reflection exercises for examining them without promising financial outcomes.
What makes a belief limiting
A belief is limiting when it unnecessarily narrows your perceived options or repeatedly drives behavior that conflicts with your goals.
Examples
“I can never learn finances.” “People like me cannot earn more.” “Talking about money is always rude.” “If I make a mistake, I have failed.”
Exercise: evidence audit
List evidence for the belief, evidence against it and situations where it does not apply.
Exercise: make it flexible
Replace an absolute statement with a testable one: “I can learn one financial skill at a time.”
Exercise: choose one action
Take a small step that produces new evidence rather than relying only on repetition or affirmation.
